I am highly privileged to write a few lines as the President of the AFSTI Tezpur Chapter (Assam). The Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India), Tezpur Chapter (Assam) was established in 2014 in the Department of Food Engineering and Technology, Tezpur University, Assam. I am thankful to all my colleagues, friends who have helped me in times of need for various activities of the Chapter. The Chapter has close to 100 professional Members including Full Student Members who are very active and I do sincerely acknowledge their help and guidance from time to time. Ever since the Chapter was created, it is thriving to contribute to the society and also to the Food Science & Technology profession of the entire North-eastern region in particular and the country in general. The Chapter has organised several outreaching activities, World Food Day celebrations especially to the local youths in developing entrepreneurial activities and in capacity building. One of the biggest achievements of the Chapter was to organise the 27thICFoST-2019 (Indian Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists) during 30th January- 1st February, 2020 in Tezpur University, Assam. The theme for the convention was RAINBOW – Raising Agro-processing & Integrated Novel technologies for Boosting Organic Wellness. Many learned luminaries in the professional field of Food Science and Technology, students across the country, people from industry and the North-eastern region participated in the mega event and the feedback was extremely appreciable. The Chapter is immensely grateful to the H.Q. of AFST(I), Mysore, all CEC Members including the President and Secretary for supporting this grandeur royal professional event in this region of the country. I on behalf of the Chapter acknowledge the various help received from all the extremely learned professional members across the country and industry people during this journey. Last but not least we are committed to render selfless service to our society by advancing the professional knowledge of food science and technology, which in turn can contribute for “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. As LEC member of AFST(I) Tezpur Chapter, I extend my best wishes to all AFSTI professionals. It is a very good platform to exchange our ideas and collaborate with students, researchers, industry representatives and government organizations. We immensely benefited from recently held 27thICFoST at Tezpur University Campus and we will continue to organize various activities ofAFST(I) in Assam and NE region.

Since AFST(I) Tezpur chapter is constituted remarkable works have been accomplished in the Northeastern part of India. Membership drive has been taken in mission mode and as a result the life members count could reach close to hundred. Many activities have been performed under the AFST(I) banner. As Hon. Secretary I wish this trend will continue and the Chapter will perform and accomplish greater heights and come out as the most active chapter in eastern region.
