About Us

The Chapter was established with the AFST (I) HQ approval in 1992.  The Office is now functioning in a building in the Veterinary College Mannuthy Campus of the Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University.  The University provides all support for the activities of the Association.  The Life Members, Full Members and Student Members are mostly from the College of Dairy Science and Technology, Veterinary College, College of Food Technology of Kerala Veterinary University, College of Horticulture and College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology in Kerala Agriculture University.   The Founder President Dr. P.I Geevarghese and other members paved the way for many achievements for the food scientists, students and entrepreneurs over time.  Since 2000, eleven times Vice-Presidents to the CEC have been elected from Thrissur Chapter.  The Chapter conducts AGBM and election of Office bearers every year and send to HQ the accounts audited by CA.    

Activities: Annual convention, National Seminars, Exhibitions,  Cooking competition for students and homemakers,  Training programmes to entrepreneurs in the food industry, students, young graduates, housewives, dairy farmers, hands-on-training to unemployed trained youths, World Food Day Celebration, Coaching candidates to appear for interviews in different posts in food industries and school outreach programmes in nutrition and sanitation for students.   In the late 1990s, the Chapter conducted Computer Training Programmes to members and other Faculty. Installed Nescafe coffee/tea vending machines in two campuses of the University in early 2000 when vending machines were not popular at all.

World Food Day Quiz and Poster Painting Contest in Food and Nutrition for High school students in Kerala is being conducted every year from 1995 and celebrated the Silver Jubilee in 2020.   Outstanding graduates in B.Tech (Dairy Sci. & Tech.), B.Tech (Food Engineering), Livestock Products Technology Courses in BVSc & AH, Food Science related courses in BSc Hon (Agriculture) and BSc (Family and Community Science) are awarded Certificates of Merit and Medals on World Food Day.
